What's that junk in your truck…?

August 22nd, 2009 | posted in Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

Ok, ok… so I’ve recently been reminded just WHY it was always suggested to sprinkle a bit of power in my shorts before running or cycling. Wendy Ingraham had always clued me into this secret and I seem to have long forgotten…

Powder – OH SO DIFFERENT from chamois creme, people!

Over the last couple of months I have been product testing for “Anti- Monkey Butt” Powder (think you like the name — ohhhh, just wait!).

One of the things that differentiates powder is that it ABSORBS sweat and ultimately reduces friction. No woman likes to admit to “chub-rub” …. (i.e. your inner thighs rubbing together when you run) …. but most of us who eat more than 500...

Yowzers!

Usually when I run on the trails of Colorado I am mostly thinking of avoiding rattlesnakes. I admit to having the occasional concern that a mountain lion is nearby but that usually passes quickly. I’ve seen elk at a distance, deer, and even saw 3 ram while on my bike early in the summer. I have not yet seen a bear but my friend, Kim McCormack, recently pointed out a huge pile of what she identified as “bear poop”. (Apparently you can tell the difference because bear poop has “seeds”. Who really knows this stuff???)

Imagine, though, coming across THIS…..

Funny women!

August 4th, 2009 | posted in Uncategorized | 7 Comments »

Get this.

I read an article from some magazine on the plane during my trip to Steelhead last week – I can’t remember where I read it – but it made my blood boil a little.

It said that men aren’t attracted to funny women. This science-type person tested whatever it is they test to tell us how we work and made the discovery.

Originally, she had asked men what they were attracted to in a woman and nearly all of them listed “sense of humor” as an important trait. Turns out they lied their penises off.

Upon further analysis, she discovered what they really meant was that they like women who laugh at THEIR jokes but don’t make any of their own.

Apparently, humor is a sign of intelligence and men feel threatened when a woman displays too much of that.

So, that’s me screwed then. Or not, as the case may be. Either way – pah, and indeed, hmph!

From Lake Placid to Steelhead….

July 31st, 2009 | posted in Uncategorized | 4 Comments »

I was not sure how I was going to feel being back at Lake Placid.

I hadn’t been back since 2003 – what I call “the race that changed my life”. It quite literally did.

Only my 3rd year in the sport, I was an unknown age grouper doing her 2nd Ironman race. The previous year (2002) I had done my first Ironman at Lake Placid and finished in a normal, nothing over-the-top 12 hours. I was thrilled with that finish and never in my wildest dreams imagined what was in store.

The following year I returned to LP, having trained under the guidance of Wendy Ingraham, and apparently tapped into some unknown potential to have the race of my lifetime. I led the women out of the swim (caught the pro pack after their head start in front of our amateur wave) and remained in the top 3-4 women throughout the bike, and somehow finished 4th overall. (!!!!!) I was beside myself, mostly with shock.

I will never forget that day and...

Weddings, Hospitals and a really cold Boulder Creek

June 29th, 2009 | posted in Uncategorized | 5 Comments »

I really can’t begin to emphasize how much I love Boulder. I (surprisingly) enjoyed the Boulder winter (it really was quite mild) — but we’ve now begun what I love the most. It’s hard for me to think of a place I love more than Boulder in the summer. No humidity, the crisp air, the electric blue sky, the breathtaking mountains in the backdrop of everything you do …. and happy people all around you who enjoy where they live as much as you do.

Since Rev3, everything has gone full throttle.

I got back to Boulder the day before my good friends, Billy Edwards and Lara Cooper, finally tied the knot. Billy and Lara prepped this wedding well, complete with a shuttle to take us all to and from the wedding to post-wedding reception.

En route to the wedding, me with Michael Stone, Pete Valentyik and Matty Reed.
